How to use the CREDO humidifier: All CREDO humidifiers are delivered ready for use and need only to have distilled water added following the directions. The periodic addition of distilled water is enough to enable it to stabilize the Relative Humidity. Under normal conditions of use, your CREDO should be refilled with distilled water approximately every month. A hygrometer will allow you to estimate if a refill is necessary or not. This is required when any deviation below 70% occurs. A Special Care Solution ensures the periodic maintenance of your CREDO. This solution aims at regenerating the tensio-active substances.

Refill: It is necessary to refill your CREDO as soon as your hygrometer indicates a relative humidity below 70%, about once a month. Refill with distilled water exclusively. Apply drops of distilled water through the slots on your CREDO and allow the liquid to penetrate into the foam. Repeat the operation until it becomes saturated and the liquid begins to drip out the underside. Carefully dry off any excess water and replace it in your humidor.

Maintenance:  Twice a year, recharge your CREDO with the Special Care Solution, to regenerate the tensio-active substances.

Mounting of Your CREDO Humidifier: All CREDO humidifiers mount with the use of two magnetic strips. One strip is permanently attached to the humidifier. The other has an adhesive on one side and attaches to the humidor . Remove the protective tape from the adhesive surface on the back of the magnetic strip. Position the magnetic strip inside the top of your humidor. Press firmly in place and hold for a few seconds. Attach the CREDO humidifier to the magnetic strip on the humidor.

Humidification Of The Best Tobacco: The best cigars are made from tobaccos grown in the tropical or equatorial areas: Cuba, Santo-Domingo, Cameroon, Sumatra and the Philippines. The humidity of the climate in these countries is ideal for the maturation of the tobacco leaves. The Relative Humidity is high (70-80%) and almost constant. The tobacco matures in this atmosphere before the cigars are manufactured and sent around the world. From then on, the cigars undergo harsh temperature and humidity variations. They can only complete their maturation once at rest in the controlled environment of the tobacconists'. Cigars need their original humid atmosphere to achieve maturation and deliver then when smoked their aroma at its best. It is therefore necessary to recreate the humid climate of the production area when storing the cigars at the home or at the office. The Precision 70 humidifier creates in your humidor a constant Relative Humidity of approximately 70%.

Relative Humidity: The Relative Humidity (RH) my be defined as the amount of moisture in the atmosphere as compared with that of complete saturation at the given temperature. Water exposed to the air gradually evaporates until saturation point, i.e.- the highest quantity of evaporated water which the air may retain. At saturation point, the slightest drop in temperature will cause condensation. This is known as the dew point, and corresponds to 100% RH.

Why create a humid environment with a constant Relative Humidity of 70%?: Cigars are naturally hygroscopic products. In common with many organic substances, they dry out in the absence of humidity in the air, or absorb moisture from the ambient air. They establish an equilibrium with the atmospheric humidity which surrounds them. A dry cigar burns too quickly. The temperature at which combustion occurs is too high, as it is not tempered by the natural moisture of the cigar. The smoke is hot and acrid: the cigar becomes aggressive. A damp cigar does not burn easily. It becomes difficult to draw on and craters occur at the combustion point. The smoke is heavy, the aroma pungent and tart. For a pleasant smoke, a cigar should contain a certain amount of moisture which corresponds to 13-14% of its total weight. Thus, the combustion is regular. The draw is easy and the smoke bluish and light. The aroma of the tobacco is fully developed whilst the irritating effect of the smoke is moderated by the humidity of the cigar itself. The ideal moisture contents of a cigar (13-14%) corresponds to a Relative Humidity of 70%. This is why it is necessary to maintain the Relative Humidity of the atmosphere in which cigars are stored.

How to create and maintain a constant Relative Humidity of 70%: The classical method consisted in placing a water reservoir inside the humidor in which the air becomes quickly saturated by evaporated water. As soon as the Relative Humidity runs past 85%, mould appears. Beyond 90%, cigars will rot away after a few weeks or even days. Your CREDO overcomes this problem. The secret of its originality lies in a physico-chemical solution. The principle is based on the mélange of water and the tensio-active substances which limits the potential of the evaporation of the water itself. The humidity of the air is a function of the composition of this mélange. Therefore, the manufacturer can control the Relative Humidity of the ambient atmosphere inside any humidor.
